Dr. Clay Suggs

Dr Clay Suggs, has been in practice for over 30 years and has been on GREAT DAY-SA numerous times to educate others about the benefits of Chiropractic care and Nutrition. As the past President of the Texas Chiropractic Association District 10 in San Antonio, he strives to provide the best quality chiropractic care for our patients. Our office is located at NW Loop 410 at the Exchange Parkway Exit located between Bandera and Ingram Road and right beside Freedom Fitness. We have been in the same location since 1988. Our patients have access to Freedom Fitness for rehabilitative exercises. Our services include muscle stim, hydrotherapy, exercises, spinal decompression, and "gentle" spinal adjustments.

Our mission at Optimal Health & Wellness Center is to provide affordable, high-quality care to people of all ages. We strive to not only correct a person's health problems, but to educate and enlighten people so that they do not encounter similar problems in the future.

Dr. Suggs is the Director of Optimal Health & Wellness Center in San Antonio. He graduated in 1985 from Texas Chiropractic College with a Doctorate Degree and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Biology. Dr. Suggs is also a Diplomat of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

Dr. Suggs is a member of the Doctors' Speakers Bureau in San Antonio and the Alternative Health Foundation. Other memberships include Counsel on Sports Injuries, Texas Chiropractic Association President, and Christian Chiropractic Association.

Community Service and Accomplishments
Dr. Suggs has been involved with fund raising projects for the San Antonio Food Bank and supports the Life Outreach Program. His involvement in his church takes him on medical mission trips to Mexico and he is involved with the Angel tree ministry. Dr. Suggs has been Chiropractor of the Year for 1998 and 2001. He is a member of Who's Who Professional Organization.

Dr. Suggs specializes in neuromuscular conditions, sports injuries, stress reduction care, and Nutritional Balanced care.

Method of Treatment
Dr. Suggs practices a diversified method of treatment from low force manipulation to more intensive manual manipulation techniques. He is also a strong advocate of nutritional supplementation to keep a healthy body inside and out.

Mary Beth earned her coaching certification at the distinguished and accredited Coach Training Alliance. She is a member of the International Coach Federation, as well as the Project Management Institute, where she is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP®).

Drawing from her more than a quarter century experience, she brings a “personal development meets project management” approach to her clients as she teaches adults and teens to live an authentic life…one choice at a time.

Her areas of expertise include Self Mastery Technology, Self-Awareness and Personal Planning development, as well as truth and vulnerability.  Her work, infused with sincerity and authenticity, inspires changes in the lives of adults and teens worldwide.

Patient Coordinator: Krista Reffett

Krista is always the smiling face at our Front Desk.  She is a Certified Medical Assistant and her responsibilities are to ensure each patient is scheduled and gets the proper care for their individual Health journey, as well as, assist with their therapy. 

Krista is your single point of contact for your Health Program and coordinates your experience with each of our Specialists to help you stay connected and on track to your to achieving your Health Goals!

Mara has been a massage therapy practitioner since 2005. Years of collaborating with both chiropractors and physical therapists has given her a uniquely rounded and compassionate approach to clients’ needs. While educating the client about their body, she carefully listens to her clients by being present and holding the conversational space, to achieve the needs of each individual. Her style combines clinically based deep tissue, myofascial techniques, and stretching to calm, reset, and relax the body.

As an experienced therapist, Mara has seen many different injuries from elite athletes to private injury cases. Mara will take the time and care to design a specific plan for each client. She customizes her treatments specifically for your needs using several different techniques including Sports/Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular, Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, Scar Tissue work, (ART) Active Release Technique and Swedish Massage, among others. Mara is a very intuitive therapist. She can provide very deep pressure, but also has the skill to provide a more nurturing touch when necessary. Above all her goal with each patient is to provide relief from chronic discomfort and speeding healing of injuries.

Certified Health Coach:  Shayla Gullette

Shayla is both a certified Health Consultant by the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, and Personal Trainer by the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Her unique background in education is different than most fitness instructors. Her approach to health begins with lifestyle changes that are sustainable for your individuality. Her holistic methods of proper nutrition, paired with plant derived supplements optimizes disease prevention for longevity. She understands the balance of the physical body and the emotional body behind achieving your goals. Shayla views the body as a whole to provide you with the right tools to customize an empowering lifestyle that will not only help you reach your genetic potential, but enhance your overall state of mind with positivity and clarity for your everyday life.

Shayla struggled with her own health ailments growing up, and this fueled her passion for healing others while creating a vision to help create a more mindful approach to health.
